Mayo Hadapi Louth dalam Semifinal All-Ireland SFC di Croke Park

Tim sepak bola gaelik Louth bersiap menghadapi Mayo dalam pertandingan semifinal kompetisi All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) di Croke Park pada Sabtu, 11 Juli 2026, demi memperebutkan tiket menuju babak final.

Pertemuan bersejarah ini mengulang kembali memori final All-Ireland tahun 1950 saat Mayo mengalahkan Louth, serta tahun 1957 ketika Louth berhasil keluar sebagai juara setelah menumbangkan Cork di laga puncak.

Asisten manajer Louth, Gavin Devlin, menyatakan ambisinya agar kesuksesan Louth saat ini dapat bertahan lama dan menjadi standar baru bagi budaya sepak bola di daerah tersebut.

"There are reasons why Kerry and Dublin and these teams are at the top year in, year out – they're doing things right, and we were doing things wrong. I just look in the mirror; I don't look at anyone else." kata Gavin Devlin, Asisten Manajer Louth.

Devlin menambahkan bahwa mentalitas pantang kalah yang ia bawa dari pengalamannya bersama Tyrone dibentuk oleh perubahan budaya kerja yang total dalam tim.

"We had that belief; we packed our bags in the morning to go out to play, and we weren’t getting beat; we had that mentality that we weren’t getting beat. I think that happened because the culture changed; cultures can change." ujar Gavin Devlin, Asisten Manajer Louth.

Ia juga menegaskan bahwa pencapaian Louth melaju hingga babak empat besar merupakan hasil kerja keras kolektif dari seluruh elemen tim, termasuk fondasi yang diletakkan oleh mantan manajer Mickey Harte.

"I would seriously hope not. We are all just a small piece in the jigsaw; it is a total team effort. I mean that from when Mickey Harte came in, we had Mickey Harte here last night because he really set the standard for them." ucap Gavin Devlin, Asisten Manajer Louth.

Dukungan besar dari para suporter, pelatih akademi, dan atmosfer meriah di seluruh wilayah menjadi energi tambahan bagi para pemain yang kini dipimpinnya di lapangan.

"Our supporters and the colour and the energy they bring. Our academy coaches out here, I know we stand on the line and front it up; someone has to do it – it's me now." sebut Gavin Devlin, Asisten Manajer Louth.

Pihaknya berharap generasi pemain Louth saat ini bisa terus bersaing di level tertinggi sepak bola gaelik dan tidak kembali mengalami kemunduran di masa mendatang.

"I hope I die an old man and Louth is competing at the very top. I don't think I ever want to look back and see us falling back. I don't see that we should or we would, but who knows?" harap Gavin Devlin, Asisten Manajer Louth.

Devlin mengingatkan bahwa kompetisi yang sangat ketat menuntut konsistensi tinggi agar performa tim tidak merosot akibat penurunan standar latihan.

"If the standards drop and we start doing things half-arsed, then they will fall back because the competition is so strong. But I don't see why we should or how we should." tutur Gavin Devlin, Asisten Manajer Louth.

Mantan pemain Louth yang ikut menjuarai All-Ireland 1957, Frank Lynch, mengenang kembali masa lalunya ketika ia terpilih masuk tim utama pada usia 18 tahun.

"appeared to be on the Louth team forever after that" kata Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Lynch tercatat membela Louth dalam periode yang cukup panjang di masa keemasannya bermain sepak bola gaelik.

"It was a long spell, the best part of 14 years," kata Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Ia menceritakan ketatnya pertandingan final melawan Cork pada tahun 1957 yang berakhir dengan skor tipis untuk kemenangan Louth.

"We won the match 1-09 to 1-07 on that occasion" kenang Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Kemenangan tersebut memicu euforia luar biasa bagi masyarakat karena Louth sudah sangat lama tidak mengangkat trofi All-Ireland sejak awal abad ke-20.

"It was unbelievable, because we hadn't won an All-Ireland since 1912. That was a long time back." ungkap Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Setelah mengalahkan Cork yang lebih difavoritkan, Lynch mengingat bagaimana seluruh pendukung Louth merayakan keberhasilan bersejarah tersebut.

"everybody went mad" kata Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Gelar juara tersebut menjadi pencapaian tertinggi bagi sepak bola Louth karena berhasil memutus dahaga gelar yang telah berlangsung selama puluhan tahun.

"They were beaten by the Wee County. It was a great achievement to get playing against Cork and it was the greatest day in football, as far as Louth was concerned, because it was the first time they won since 1912." puji Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Suasana kepulangan tim saat itu disambut oleh ribuan orang di sepanjang jalan dari Drogheda hingga Dundalk selama satu minggu penuh.

"unreal" kata Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Lynch juga memprediksi bahwa tim Louth saat ini memiliki kualitas yang mumpuni untuk mengalahkan Mayo dalam laga semifinal akhir pekan nanti.

"I think Louth have a good team, and I think they'll be able to take Mayo. I won't say anything about Kerry at this stage. They should get to the final at least." prediksi Frank Lynch, Mantan Pemain Louth.

Di sisi lain, ketua klub Naomh Máirtín, Martin McHugh, menyatakan bahwa antusiasme masyarakat paroki dan seluruh wilayah Louth sangat luar biasa menyambut laga ini.

"It's amazing," kata Martin McHugh, Ketua Klub Naomh Máirtín.

Kemeriahan menyelimuti wilayah tersebut karena kapten Louth Sam Mulroy dan pemain andalan Dara McDonnell merupakan bagian dari klub Naomh Máirtín.

"The atmosphere, the buzz from everybody in the whole parish, the whole county, it's just fantastic to see." ujar Martin McHugh, Ketua Klub Naomh Máirtín.

Klub yang berdiri pada tahun 1957 tersebut berharap tahun ini menjadi momentum bagi para pemain Louth untuk melangkah hingga menjadi juara.

"Our club was founded in 1957, we're taking that that maybe it's a sign that this is our year, this is the year for our lads to go all the way." harap Martin McHugh, Ketua Klub Naomh Máirtín.

Nenek dari Sam Mulroy, Margaret Mulroy, membeberkan kondisi mental cucunya yang sama sekali tidak menunjukkan rasa gugup menjelang pertandingan besar.

"not a bit nervous. Not a bother on him" kata Margaret Mulroy, Nenek Sam Mulroy.

Sebagai bentuk dukungan, Margaret berniat memanjatkan doa dan menyalakan lilin di berbagai tempat ibadah demi kemenangan tim Louth.

"I say the rosary and I light plenty of candles. I'll have them lighting at St Peter's Church in Drogheda. I'll have them lit everywhere!" ucap Margaret Mulroy, Nenek Sam Mulroy.

Sementara itu, Paula yang merupakan nenek dari Dara McDonnell mengungkapkan kebanggaan besar yang dirasakan oleh seluruh warga paroki terhadap para pemain.

"Everybody is so proud of them," kata Paula, Nenek Dara McDonnell.

Ia pun menitipkan pesan agar para pemain tetap fokus pada permainan mereka sendiri dan mengabaikan segala pemberitaan yang beredar di media.

"keep the heads down, play their football, and ignore what's said in the press or on paper. Paper never refuses ink" pesan Paula, Nenek Dara McDonnell.

Dukungan emosional juga dirasakan oleh Oliver Ginty, ketua divisi junior Naomh Máirtín asal Mayo, yang mengaku terkejut saat mengetahui hasil undian semifinal.

"nearly physically sick" kata Oliver Ginty, Ketua Juvenile Naomh Máirtín.

Meski dilema karena berasal dari Mayo, ia tetap mendoakan agar Dara dan Sam bisa tampil maksimal dalam pertandingan tersebut.

"It wasn't the one I was looking for," kata Oliver Ginty, Ketua Juvenile Naomh Máirtín.

Ginty mendoakan yang terbaik bagi performa kedua pemain tersebut, walau ia tetap berharap Mayo keluar sebagai pemenang laga.

"I wish Dara and Sam the very best, I hope they do fantastically well, I hope they hope they play really well. I don't know how that works with Mayo winning at the same time, but we'll have to see!" tambah Oliver Ginty, Ketua Juvenile Naomh Máirtín.

Ia memprediksi pertandingan akan berlangsung ketat dengan keunggulan tipis untuk kubu Mayo di akhir laga.

"Mayo to sneak it by a point." tebak Oliver Ginty, Ketua Juvenile Naomh Máirtín.

Pendukung senior Louth, Paddy Briscoe, yang menghadiri semifinal tahun 1957 saat masih remaja, mengingat laga tersebut sebagai pertandingan yang sengit.

"It was fantastic, a well-fought game I remember." kenang Paddy Briscoe, Pendukung Louth.

Ia mengaku tidak menyangka bahwa Louth bisa kembali mencapai level kompetisi setinggi ini setelah sekian lama.

"I can't believe we're even touching at it now," kata Paddy Briscoe, Pendukung Louth.

Di sektor pembangunan infrastruktur, Louth tengah menyelesaikan tahap pertama stadion baru berkapasitas 14.000 penonton di Dundalk dengan biaya mencapai 36,5 juta euro.

"We're building a home," kata Sean McClean, Ketua Louth County Board.

McClean menegaskan pentingnya fasilitas tersebut karena Louth menjadi wilayah terakhir di Irlandia yang belum memiliki stadion kandang sendiri.

"This is the first time we've had our own stadium. We're the last county in Ireland not to have a home stadium." jelas Sean McClean, Ketua Louth County Board.

Dari kategori sepak bola wanita, pemain Louth Aoife Russell menyatakan kepuasannya atas pencapaian tim wanita Louth yang berhasil mengamankan posisi di kompetisi antara musim depan.

"The whole county will be above in Croker on Saturday, I think.” ujar Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Russell menjelaskan pentingnya mempertahankan status di kelas intermediate agar tim tidak naik-turun kasta di setiap musim kompetisi.

"I suppose it was really important for us. The fact that we won last year in junior. We beat Antrim and we wanted to stay up in intermediate.

We don't want to be a yo-yo team. We don't want to be up and straight back down the following year. It was really important for us.

It’s going to be a journey, so the first thing this year was to stay up," kata Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Keberhasilan bertahan di kelas intermediate serta performa bagus di liga menjadi target utama yang berhasil dipenuhi oleh tim wanita Louth tahun ini.

"To retain our status and then hopefully next year we might drive on. Keep progressing every year. We’re building, building, building.

It was really important for us this year. Our main target was to stay up in intermediate and do well in the league. That’s what we did, so it was really good." urai Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Pengalaman bermain di Divisi Dua pada musim depan diharapkan mampu mengasah kemampuan tim sebelum berlaga di kejuaraan utama.

"Like I said, we are obviously hoping to go that bit further next year. Hopefully playing Division Two football, we’ll get a taste for that and that will help us develop then come championship. Hopefully we can drive on that extra bit more for next year." harap Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Russell juga menceritakan keberhasilannya mencetak poin dua angka secara resmi yang terbantu oleh kondisi angin kencang di lapangan.

"I got the two-pointer, which was nice. We had a really strong wind behind us, so I will thank the wind for that one! It’s funny enough, I got one as well in the challenge game that we played Wicklow in there during the year. It was my second one, but the first official one because obviously it was only a challenge game." cerita Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Ia menilai penerapan regulasi baru di sepak bola wanita memberikan dampak positif dan nuansa spesial saat terjadi skor dua angka.

"I think the new rules are brilliant. When there is a two-pointer in any of the ladies games, I think it is that extra little bit special. The three up, it’s brilliant.

It has really suited us, I think. It took a little bit of getting used to at the start, but you play one or two challenge games and once you integrate it during training, it just kind of comes naturally." nilai Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Mengingat masa lalunya saat juara tahun 2019, Russell mengaku faktor usia yang masih muda membuatnya didera rasa gugup sehingga kurang menikmati momen tersebut.

"I was so young then [in 2019]. Not that it’s such a blur, but I was so young and I was nervous. I didn’t probably properly get to enjoy it, but then obviously last year.

We had the disappointment the year before losing to Fermanagh, but I was 26 when I played in our last All-Ireland there against Antrim. I think I could enjoy it more." banding Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Menurutnya, kematangan usia membuat seorang pemain lebih bisa menghargai kerja keras serta proses persiapan menjelang pertandingan besar di stadion utama.

"You appreciate more the work that you put in, the big occasion and the lead-up to it. Just say for example with your club getting behind you and we did a media day. We did a meet and greet in Darver.

All of those little things, you probably take those things for granted when you’re younger. I suppose when you are an older player, they are special." pungkas Aoife Russell, Pemain Sepak Bola Wanita Louth.

Menilai kekuatan lawan, mantan pemain Mayo Conor Mortimer menyoroti lini pertahanan skuad Andy Moran yang harus tampil lebih solid demi meredam agresivitas Louth.

"I think that's where the main focus of work would have been for the last two, three, four weeks," kata Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Evaluasi menyeluruh dinilai sangat diperlukan pasca laga melawan Meath demi memperbaiki performa lini belakang Mayo.

"I think particularly from the Meath game. And it has gotten a bit better. We didn't cough up a huge amount of goal chances against Cork, but we coughed up enough two-point range shots that they didn't put over the bar." analisis Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Mortimer mengingatkan bahwa Louth memiliki barisan pemain dengan daya jelajah tinggi dan akurasi tembakan yang bisa menghukum kelengahan pertahanan Mayo.

"So, there is room for improvement and it'll have to be found because Louth have a lot of scorers, they have a lot of running power as well. The later you get in the Championship, if a team takes those chances, it's very hard to come back from it. There's two or three, four goals that teams are leaving behind them in the couple of games that we've played." jelas Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Baginya, aspek pertahanan yang kokoh memegang peranan jauh lebih krusial dibandingkan lini serang dalam menentukan kemenangan di fase gugur.

"Big, big Championship games are won defensively, more so than offensively. You've got to be tight defensively to have a chance of winning any game when you get to a quarter-final, semi-final, final. There's no question, because the better teams will expose it." tegas Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Louth diprediksi sudah menganalisis rekaman pertandingan Mayo untuk mencari celah kelemahan yang bisa dieksploitasi dalam laga nanti.

"They'll have watched enough videos of Mayo to know where to kind of attack them. So you'd expect the work is being done there and that it will be solid on Saturday." lanjut Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Mortimer tidak menginginkan jalannya pertandingan berubah menjadi aksi saling balas skor secara terbuka karena komposisi pemain Louth lebih merata dalam mencetak poin.

"I wouldn't want a shoot-out, I don't think that would be hugely beneficial for us, because ultimately I think Louth have more of a spread in terms of nine or ten lads that can kick points regularly, where we have five or six that I'd be looking at getting two or three points." urai Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Strategi meredam permainan cepat Louth sejak menit awal dianggap sebagai kunci utama bagi Mayo untuk membalikkan keadaan dan menguasai laga.

"So I think if we can keep it kind of tight early and stop their running game, we have a great opportunity of turning them over. There's no question of that if we get enough ball inside to our forwards and let the guys play." tambah Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Ketajaman lini depan Mayo yang diisi pemain muda diharapkan kembali menjadi pembeda seperti saat mereka menyingkirkan Cork di babak perempat final.

"All good players," puji Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Keseimbangan pergerakan dari sisi kiri maupun kanan dinilai memberikan variasi opsi serangan yang menyulitkan barisan pertahanan lawan.

"You have balance in terms of your left footers and your right footers. You can go either side. And from looking to kick pass the ball in, it's just more optional. You have guys coming off the shoulder and the movement is good." jabar Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Meskipun ruang gerak penyerang akan semakin diperketat oleh bek lawan di fase krusial ini, kebebasan bermain para penyerang muda Mayo diharapkan tetap terjaga.

"And they're young, they're full of running, they're playing with huge freedom. Now, typically, as the championship goes on, defenders and defences will generally give you less freedom." ujar Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Fokus utama tim adalah meningkatkan level performa dari laga sebelumnya agar bisa bersaing ketat hingga menit-menit akhir pertandingan.

"But I think, for our group, it's about improving on what we did against Cork another five or ten percent and seeing where that takes us, I think that's ultimately what the focus will be on, and it's just getting a performance. It's a 50-50 game for me, but I think if we can do that we'll be there in the last five or ten minutes." tutur Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Selain masalah taktik pertahanan, penguasaan bola di sektor lini tengah serta akurasi tendangan jarak jauh akan memegang peranan sangat vital.

"Obviously everyone talks about it, but the kick-out and the possession around the middle is a big factor. Louth are very big around the middle. So we need to navigate that from their kick-outs and then we've got to have our own. If we get enough possession, we'll be okay." ungkap Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.

Penguasaan bola yang dominan menjadi modal krusial bagi Mayo untuk memenangi duel sengit ini dan melaju ke babak final.

"That's the key, to get enough possession and try and turn them over and then pip it at the end. It'll be close, but I fancy Mayo to win it." pungkas Conor Mortimer, Mantan Pemain Mayo.
