Thomas Tuchel Siapkan Pemain Muda Inggris Hadapi Selandia Baru

Manajer tim nasional Inggris Thomas Tuchel menyiapkan empat pemain muda untuk melakoni pertandingan uji coba melawan Selandia Baru di Stadion Raymond James, Florida, pada Sabtu, 6 Juni 2026. Langkah ini diambil guna mengatasi keterbatasan personel akibat absennya sejumlah pilar utama.

Kuartet pemain muda yang dipersiapkan untuk mendapatkan menit bermain tersebut adalah Ethan Nwaneri, Alex Scott, Rio Ngumoha, dan Josh King. Kehadiran mereka menjadi solusi setelah bintang-bintang Arsenal seperti Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, dan Noni Madueke diberikan libur tambahan usai tampil di final Liga Champions.

Tuchel memutuskan untuk membawa para pemain muda ini agar intensitas latihan tim tetap terjaga selama masa persiapan pra-turnamen di Amerika Serikat.

"We will take some young players out who will train with us in the size of the squad that we need, and we have the two friendly matches to take care of the minutes and the load on the players," kata Tuchel.

Gelandang Alex Scott menjadi salah satu pemain yang menarik perhatian sang manajer setelah sempat tidak masuk dalam pemangkasan awal skuad Piala Dunia.

"I’m happy to have these players, especially Alex who was on the [long] list of 55 [players for the 26-man World Cup squad] and obviously he didn’t make the first cut but the reaction of him was outstanding and the commitment and wish to be in pre-camp and a step closer to the team was not even a question for him," ujar Tuchel.

Arsitek asal Jerman tersebut memuji karakter yang ditunjukkan oleh Scott dalam menyikapi situasi pemilihan skuad.

"That showed me his character and I’m delighted he’ll be with us because that was a close call and he gets a chance to get a step closer and a cap," tutur Tuchel.

Di kubu lawan, Selandia Baru datang dengan keterbatasan pengalaman di Liga Primer Inggris setelah kapten Chris Wood melewatkan banyak laga bersama Nottingham Forest akibat cedera. Kendati demikian, pelatih All Whites Darren Bazeley menegaskan ambisi besar timnya untuk bersaing di panggung global.

"We want to go to the World Cup to do something," ucap Bazeley kepada Sky Sports.

Bazeley menambahkan bahwa target utama Selandia Baru adalah melewati fase grup dan melaju ke babak gugur.

"We're not just there to attend. We want to qualify for the knockout phases. If I'm honest, I'm not sure if it's really hit home yet that we're going to be on that global stage. It's exciting and I can't wait," kata Bazeley.
