Manchester City Pilih Enzo Maresca Gantikan Pep Guardiola

Manchester City bersiap menunjuk mantan pelatih Chelsea, Enzo Maresca, sebagai manajer baru untuk menggantikan Pep Guardiola yang diperkirakan hengkang setelah pertandingan final musim ini melawan Aston Villa di Stadion Etihad.

Dilansir dari BBC Sport pada Selasa (19/5), manajemen Manchester City telah mengidentifikasi pria berusia 46 tahun tersebut sebagai kandidat utama setelah melakukan persiapan kepergian Guardiola selama lebih dari enam bulan, dengan proses negosiasi yang kini sudah memasuki tahap lanjut.

Pihak Manchester City memiliki pengetahuan langsung tentang kemampuan Maresca karena pria Italia itu pernah menjabat sebagai asisten Guardiola saat City meraih Treble pada musim 2022-2023 serta sempat melatih tim akademi klub sebelum pindah ke Leicester.

Guardiola memberikan pujian tinggi kepada Maresca atas pencapaiannya selama menukari skuad muda di Stamford Bridge meskipun hubungannya dengan jajaran petinggi Chelsea akhirnya retak pada Januari lalu akibat perselisihan transfer.

"One of the best managers in the world, Enzo Maresca, I know him quite well, but the job he has done at Chelsea does not get enough credit. "Winning the Club World Cup, Conference League, qualification for the Champions League in a league that is so tough with a young team. It is exceptional." kata Guardiola.

Pemilik Chelsea, Behdad Eghbali, mengonfirmasi bahwa kepergian Maresca dari klub London Barat tersebut bukan merupakan keputusan murni dari pihak manajemen klub.

"The change wasn't the club's decision, for reasons I can't speak about legally. "I think the reasons will become kind of clear in due course. But no, it's not a change we wanted to make." kata Eghbali saat berbicara di CAA World Congress of Sports bulan lalu.

Hingga saat ini, pihak Chelsea dilaporkan tengah mengeksplorasi opsi hukum demi menuntut paket kompensasi finansial yang harus dibayarkan oleh Manchester City atau oleh Maresca sendiri terkait dengan pemutusan kontrak tersebut.

Sementara itu, kabar kepergian Guardiola dinilai dapat memberikan dorongan moral bagi para pemain Manchester City dalam persaingan ketat perebutan gelar juara kompetisi domestik musim ini melawan Arsenal.

Mantan bek Liverpool, Jamie Carragher, menyatakan kepada Sky Sports bahwa situasi internal ini sudah diketahui oleh banyak pihak dalam beberapa minggu terakhir seiring mendekatnya akhir kompetisi sehingga informasi tersebut akhirnya bocor ke publik.

"I don't suppose Man City or Pep Guardiola can do anything about the timing," kata Carragher.

"They have to let the club know, the next guy coming in, we hear it's [Enzo] Maresca, he'd have to have information about this." tambah Carragher.

"He would have staff who he'd have to speak to. The closer it gets to the end of the season, there's more people who know. Eventually, it comes out." lanjut Carragher.

"This wouldn't have happened overnight you imagine. It would've been the last few weeks, maybe couple of months. There's just too many people involved for it not to come out in the end." ujar Carragher.

"I don't think it'd affect City in a negative way. It might make no difference, but if it did affect things I think it would be in a positive way." tutur Carragher.

"What he's done for these players, what a way to send this man out. Can we go and win a domestic treble for Pep Guardiola, in his last game?" pungkas Carragher.

Guardiola tercatat telah memimpin sebanyak 591 pertandingan sejak mendarat di Etihad pada 2016 dengan memenangkan 416 laga dan mempersembahkan total 20 trofi, termasuk enam gelar Premier League dan satu trofi Champions League.
