Afrika Selatan Ditahan Imbang Nikaragua Tanpa Gol di Orlando

Tim nasional sepak bola Afrika Selatan ditahan imbang tanpa gol oleh Nikaragua dalam laga persahabatan menjelang Piala Dunia 2026 di Orlando Amstel Arena pada Jumat malam, 29 Mei 2026.

Hasil imbang didapat setelah penyerang Lyle Foster gagal mengeksekusi penalti pada babak pertama, tepatnya menit ke-43, akibat bola tendangannya membentur tiang gawang.

Dilansir dari flashscore.com, skuad Bafana Bafana mendominasi penguasaan bola secara penuh, namun kesulitan membongkar pertahanan rapat tim tamu yang berada 71 peringkat di bawah mereka dalam ranking FIFA.

Wasit asal Lesotho, Lebalang Mokete, memberikan hadiah penalti setelah Kamogelo Sebelebele dijatuhkan di kotak terlarang akibat sentuhan minimal dari Justing Cano.

Sebelumnya, kapten Themba Zwane sempat menyia-nyiakan peluang emas setelah gagal menyambut umpan silang rendah dari Sebelebele di depan gawang lawan pada awal babak pertama.

Pelatih kepala Afrika Selatan, Hugo Broos, memilih untuk mengistirahatkan enam pemain pilar asal klub Mamelodi Sundowns yang baru menjuarai CAF Champions League di Maroko demi menjaga kondisi fisik mereka.

"The last few days have been very emotional with Sundowns celebrating and having parties, which I'm not against because when you win the Champions League you have to celebrate. They are not really mentally ready to focus on the World Cup just yet, and that's why the Sundowns players will not be in the squad for the game against Nicaragua. They will have another day to rest, and in the worst case they might have to play ten minutes." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Broos memanfaatkan laga ini untuk memberikan panggung debut bagi bek tengah Olwethu Makhanya dan bek kiri Bradley Cross yang masuk pada menit ke-67 agar terbiasa dengan atmosfer tim nasional.

"We are at a point where we have to make our next step because the highest level of football is the World Cup. You will be confronted with players who have more experience on that level than us so we have to make that step up." ujar Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Keputusan menghadapi tim dari wilayah CONCACAF diambil setelah rencana awal untuk melawan tim dari Asia atau Eropa, seperti Serbia, terkendala oleh bentrokan jadwal pertandingan domestik.

"South Africa has always been a team that has played good football, but this is not enough. You need fighting spirit, you need to win games without playing well, and this is what we learnt especially in Ivory Coast." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Broos kemudian melakukan lima pergantian pemain sekaligus saat jeda babak pertama dengan memasukkan Sipho Chaine, Relebohile Mofokeng, Thapelo Maseko, Oswin Appollis, dan Iqraam Rayners untuk meningkatkan intensitas serangan.

"The best thing would've been for us to play against an Asian, European and a Central American team. You also need the opportunities to play against them. There were some other possibilities like Serbia, but they only wanted to play against us on the 29th of May, but the Sundowns players had to play on the 25th. So you have to take all of these things into account." ujar Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Laga ini menjadi momentum bagi kedua tim untuk menguji formasi, dengan Afrika Selatan menerapkan strategi 4-2-3-1 dan Nikaragua memakai formasi bertahan 5-4-1.

"I think we can be happy with the performance today. The difficulty was that we came up against a very negative opponent. Nicaragua spent almost the entire 90 minutes defending, kicking the ball forward and trying to slow the game down whenever possible. That made it very difficult for us." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Kegagalan memanfaatkan peluang dari titik putih dinilai sang pelatih menjadi momentum yang hilang untuk mengubah jalannya pertandingan secara keseluruhan.

"We missed the penalty and, if we score that goal, I think the game changes completely because they would have been forced to come out and try something. But they never really tried to attack today, they only defended," ujar Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Sementara itu, pelatih Nikaragua, Juan Cruz Real, membawa skuat muda yang memuat lima pemain baru tanpa caps sebagai bagian dari proyeksi jangka panjang menuju Piala Dunia 2030.

"We have the opportunity to come and play against a team that is going to the World Cup and that was very important for us in terms of gaining more experience," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Nikaragua tidak bisa memainkan penyerang Ariagner Smith yang merumput di Kazakhstan karena laga ini berlangsung di luar jendela transfer internasional FIFA.

"We are a national team developing as a team, starting a new process. For us it is very important to compete against teams that are in better shape and higher in the FIFA rankings as well." ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Meskipun demikian, Real mengaku telah menganalisis rekaman pertandingan terakhir dari skuat Bafana Bafana yang diisi beberapa pemain liga luar negeri.

"We have been watching their last several games," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Kondisi tim lawan yang dinamis dan memiliki pemain di luar negeri seperti Lyle Foster serta beberapa yang bermain di MLS menjadi tantangan besar bagi anak asuhnya.

"It is a good team, a very dynamic team. Most of the players play in the local league, however some of them play abroad, like Lyle Foster. Some play in MLS (Major League Soccer)." ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Kompetisi melawan tim level Piala Dunia dinilai sangat berharga untuk melatih mental serta fisik para pemain muda Nikaragua yang datang dengan catatan enam kekalahan dari delapan laga terakhir.

"It is a very competitive team. They have a very clear style of play, hopefully it will be a good experience for us. We are expecting to compete well with them." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Skuat berjuluk Los Pinoleros tersebut berkomitmen untuk tetap menjaga kehormatan negara dalam pertandingan internasional ini sebelum bertolak menuju Asuncion.

"It is a new experience for us. One of the things that we need to look at is trying to play these types of games that will force us to perform at the highest level possible, to feel in our body and our brain these types of games and make us better." ujar Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Evaluasi performa lini depan ini menjadi catatan penting mengingat Afrika Selatan dijadwalkan melakoni laga uji coba berikutnya melawan Jamaika pada 5 Juni 2026, sebelum membuka Piala Dunia melawan Meksiko pada 11 Juni 2026.

"We know we are going to play against a World Cup team, but we need to try and represent the country in the best manner possible," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Setelah pertandingan di Johannesburg selesai, tim nasional Nikaragua dijadwalkan langsung terbang menuju Asuncion untuk melakoni laga uji coba berikutnya melawan Paraguay pada 3 Juni 2026.
