Hugo Broos Istirahatkan Pemain Utama Jelang Piala Dunia 2026

Pelatih tim nasional sepak bola Afrika Selatan, Hugo Broos, menerapkan strategi rotasi ekstrem dengan mengistirahatkan mayoritas pemain pilar asal klub Mamelodi Sundowns saat timnya ditahan imbang tanpa gol oleh Nikaragua dalam laga persahabatan di Orlando Amstel Arena pada Jumat, 29 Mei 2026.

Keputusan taktis tersebut diambil demi menjaga kondisi fisik para pemain utama Sundowns yang baru saja mengamankan gelar juara CAF Champions League di Maroko sebelum skuad bertolak menuju turnamen Piala Dunia 2026.

Penggawa Mamelodi Sundowns dinilai belum sepenuhnya siap secara mental untuk langsung fokus ke kompetisi internasional akibat perayaan juara yang intensif di level klub.

"The last few days have been very emotional with Sundowns celebrating and having parties, which I'm not against because when you win the Champions League you have to celebrate. They are not really mentally ready to focus on the World Cup just yet, and that's why the Sundowns players will not be in the squad for the game against Nicaragua. They will have another day to rest, and in the worst case they might have to play ten minutes." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Absennya pilar utama ini dimanfaatkan Broos untuk menguji atmosfer pertandingan internasional bagi para pemain baru, termasuk memberikan menit bermain kepada Olwethu Makhanya dan Bradley Cross yang menjalani debut dari bangku cadangan pada menit ke-67.

"We are at a point where we have to make our next step because the highest level of football is the World Cup. You will be confronted with players who have more experience on that level than us so we have to make that step up." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Berdasarkan data flashscore.com, Afrika Selatan tampil mendominasi penguasaan bola secara penuh atas tim tamu yang secara peringkat FIFA berada 71 posisi di bawah skuad Bafana Bafana.

"South Africa has always been a team that has played good football, but this is not enough. You need fighting spirit, you need to win games without playing well, and this is what we learnt especially in Ivory Coast." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Mengenai pemilihan lawan uji coba dari wilayah CONCACAF, tim kepelatihan menjelaskan bahwa penjadwalan sangat bergantung pada kecocokan waktu antarnegara setelah rencana awal melawan tim Eropa seperti Serbia batal akibat bentrok jadwal domestik.

"The best thing would've been for us to play against an Asian, European and a Central American team. You also need the opportunities to play against them. There were some other possibilities like Serbia, but they only wanted to play against us on the 29th of May, but the Sundowns players had to play on the 25th. So you have to take all of these things into account." kata Hugo Broos, Pelatih Kepala Afrika Selatan.

Tuan rumah sebenarnya mendapatkan peluang emas memecah kebuntuan pada menit ke-43 melalui titik putih setelah Kamogelo Sebelebele dilanggar, namun eksekusi penalti Lyle Foster membentur tiang gawang.

“I think we can be happy with the performance today. The difficulty was that we came up against a very negative opponent. Nicaragua spent almost the entire 90 minutes defending, kicking the ball forward and trying to slow the game down whenever possible. That made it very difficult for us.

Kegagalan penalti tersebut membuat strategi bertahan total formasi 5-4-1 milik Nikaragua sukses meredam formasi 4-2-3-1 terapan Afrika Selatan hingga peluit panjang berbunyi.

“We missed the penalty and, if we score that goal, I think the game changes completely because they would have been forced to come out and try something. But they never really tried to attack today, they only defended,” kata Broos.

Di kubu lawan, pelatih Nikaragua Juan Cruz Real sengaja menurunkan komposisi skuad muda yang memuat lima pemain baru tanpa caps internasional sebagai bagian dari proyeksi jangka panjang federasi mereka.

"We have the opportunity to come and play against a team that is going to the World Cup and that was very important for us in terms of gaining more experience," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Los Pinoleros juga terpaksa tampil tanpa penyerang utama Ariagner Smith yang merumput di Kazakhstan lantaran laga persahabatan ini digelar di luar jendela transfer resmi FIFA.

"We are a national team developing as a team, starting a new process. For us it is very important to compete against teams that are in better shape and higher in the FIFA rankings as well." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Sebelum laga dimulai, tim analis Nikaragua telah mempelajari rekaman pertandingan terakhir Bafana Bafana guna mengantisipasi pergerakan para pemain lawan yang merumput di luar negeri.

"For us it is very pleasant to be here and play these kinds of games. It is a good opportunity for us." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Secara khusus, barisan pertahanan Nikaragua memberikan pengawasan ekstra terhadap pergerakan penyerang Lyle Foster serta beberapa pilar Afrika Selatan yang berkarir di Major League Soccer (MLS).

"We have been watching their last several games," kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Walaupun datang ke Orlando dengan catatan kurang meyakinkan berupa enam kekalahan dari delapan laga terakhir, kedisiplinan lini belakang skuat muda Nikaragua berhasil memaksakan hasil imbang.

"It is a good team, a very dynamic team. Most of the players play in the local league, however some of them play abroad, like Lyle Foster. Some play in MLS (Major League Soccer)." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.

Rangkaian uji coba melawan tim peserta Piala Dunia ini dinilai krusial untuk mengasah mental bertanding serta ketahanan fisik para pemain muda Nikaragua di level tertinggi sepak bola internasional.

"It is a very competitive team. They have a very clear style of play, hopefully it will be a good experience for us. We are expecting to compete well with them." kata Juan Cruz Real, Pelatih Nikaragua.
